Biography
James Lee Phillips is a freelance writer and researcher who spends much of his time exploring the interactions of people and technology. Born and raised in New York, James Lee cut his teeth on floppy discs and dial-up modems before receivng undergraduate degrees in Philiosophy and Communications at the SUNY Fredonia. He then spent the next several years traveling across the United States as a freelance videographer and musician. In the years immediately before and after the turn of the century, James Lee worked with Nielsen Media Research -- spending time on and off the job developing a more hands-on familiarity with increasingly complex digital technology. Since then, James Lee has (more or less) resided in the American Southwest, building personal computers and networks, and writing on diverse topics. As a lifelong geek, activist, and music-lover, James Lee is deeply concerned with intellectual property issues from media copyrights to software patents.
