The value of patent portfolios is often shrouded in mystery, due to the lack of transparency associated with IP transactions. In the US market, some of the recent multi-million dollar patent deals, Supreme Court decisions, intensive patent litigation and the ongoing patent reform legislation, have had a tremendous impact on the financial value of IP assets. Yet, the financial value of IP assets is largely misunderstood due to the fact that these assets are not reported and measured regularly in financial statements of corporate IP holders, creating a gap in valuation that is difficult to bridge by market observers.
This webinar will provide guideline to understanding the value of a company's IP portfolio as a strategic business asset, from the viewpoint of a variety of stakeholders. Through hand-on examples from her valuation practice, the speaker will present a practical approach to understanding the methodologies applied and factors considered in the valuation and assessment of patents as they relate to the corporate IP holder. Some of the special circumstances highlighted I the talk include: IP valuation for funding and IP valuation in M&A deals.
Suggested Audience: IP lawyers, In-house IP counsel, Corporate licensing professionals, startup founders, Investors (VCs, Angels), tech transfer offices, Corporate lawyers, transaction lawyers, Corp. development professional
