Most Chinese internet users on mobile
For the first time, the number of mobile internet users has surpassed that of non-mobile users, a surprising and significant statistic about the world's largest untapped internet market. As reported in the Reuters article, the implications for Chinese internet companies like Baidu will be profound. More importantly, I think this reveals something about the way the Chinese market prefers to access the internet, and casts a brighter spotlight on the impending jostling-for-position between handset makers in the Chinese market. The major players seem to be Lenovo, Huawei, Samsung, and Apple. The former three have significant head starts, and the first two have the advantage of focusing exclusively on the Chinese market, but Apple highly-anticipated iPhone 5 release could really mix up the field.
