Domestic Alternative Fuels Act of 2012 could impact biofuels
Celanese Corporation, a global technology and specialty materials company, endorses House Bill 3773 that Representative Pete Olson (R-Texas) introduced yesterday on the floor of the United States House of Representatives. The law would amend section 211(o) of the Clean Air Act to allow fuel blenders to use Domestic Alternative Fuel to satisfy their obligations under the federal Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS). Specifically, it allows ethanol produced from domestic hydrocarbons other than petroleum to satisfy the RFS requirement to use conventional biofuel (corn-based ethanol) to reduce the quantity of petroleum used in transportation fuel. This law would impact biofuel technology development like the Celanese TCX(R), the company's proprietary technology process for the production of fuel and industrial-grade ethanol from feedstocks such as natural gas and coal.
