Berkeley showcases innovation startup funding and research with the Skydeck Incubator
10,000 square feet of office space with 360-degree panoramic views -- the entire the top floor of the tallest building in downtown Berkeley -- has been set aside to aid the development of a new generation of young entrepreneurs. The Skydeck Incubator atop the chase building houses a diverse group of ventures from students and faculty from Haas School of Business, the College of Engineering and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Designed to accelerate companies fundable within six to nine months, Grahm Fleming, UC Berkeley Vice Chancellor for Research describes the long needed initiative as a "perfect fit for a campus that is deeply engaged with and concerned about real-world challenges." Startup teams gain access to a powerful network of industry professionals for guidance on topics ranging from attracting early-stage financing to intellectual property. Current ventures include Kloudless, HealthyLabs, GoOverseas, Building Robotics, GoMake.it, Hybrid Wisdom Labs, InSituGen, Intelligent Obstetrics, and Picatcha. Eliot Sun of Kloudless (a tool for simplifying the management of personal data scattered across devices) says “The program administrators have done an excellent job of understanding our needs and connecting us to mentors with the right expertise to help grow our venture from a product to a company,”
