"Smart machine" enhances Navy pilot training

Navy pilots and flight specialists will soon have "smart machines" installed in training simulators that learn from expert instructors to more efficiently train their students. Sandia National Laboratories' Automated Expert Modeling & Student Evaluation (AEMASE) is being provided to the Navy as a component of flight simulators. AEMASE is a cognitive software application that updates its knowledge of expert's performance on training simulators in real time. The software prevents training sessions from becoming obsolete and automatically evaluates student performance, which ultimately reduce training costs. The Navy is considering AEMASE to monitor live operations. Potential applications include driver's education, automating robots and many other areas.
