Washington's Top IP Official Steps Down

Victoria Espinel, the IP Enforcement Coordinator in the White House, left the administration last week. Espinel had been the leader of an aggressive campaign to beat back IP theft since taking the position in late 2009. Her interim replacement will be Howard Shelanski, the current administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs and the former co-director of the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology.

Victoria Espinel left Aug. 9 after spending more than four years as the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator. OIRA Administrator Howard Shelanski will serve in an acting role until the White House names a new coordinator.
