University of Wisconsin-Madison researcher Kristyn Masters and her team study heart valve disease, conditions where the valves in the heart harden or become thicker, inhibiting blood flow. By making models of diseased valves using pig hearts, they test potential treatments and hope to understand why men are diagnosed with heart valve disease more than women.
