VIDEO - Genuine or frustrated; can you tell the difference?

MIT researchers build a computer program to recognize whether smiles are genuinely happy or frustrated -- and the computer does better than humans. As the video describes, they first had to amass many data of both delighted and frustrated smiles. Once the computer learned which features were characteristic of each, it was able to recognize a frustrated smile with more than 90% accuracy. Humans performed below chance. "One possible explanation is that -- we as humans can zoom out and try to interpret an expression, where the computer algorithm can utilize the nitty-gritty details of a signal." said M. Ehsan Hoque, a research assistant for the project.
