VIDEO - A breathalyzer that detects disease
Researchers at Stony Brook University are giving new meaning to the term “bad breath.” They are developing the Single Breath Disease Diagnostics Breathalyzer, which, when you blow into it, tests for biomarkers -- signs of disease. With support from the National Science Foundation, Professor Perena Gouma and her team created a sensor chip coated with tiny nanowires that are able to detect minute amounts of chemical compounds in the breath, and are testing the device in clinical trials.
