TomoWave Laboratories receives grant for nano-drug testing

TomoWave Laboratories announced that it has received a Small Business Research (SBIR) Phase I grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to examine whether nanotechnology is harmful to industry and medicine. TomoWave Laboratories is a leader in imaging, sensing, and monitoring systems that use a combination of light and sound technology, or optoacoustics. These optoacoustic devices will be used to investigate how injected nanoparticles affect the health of live lab animals. By converting absorbed optical energies into ultrasound sources, tunable near-infared laser pulses monitor the effects of the nanoparticles. These new instruments are expected to play an important role in future nanotechnology research to determine the efficacy of nano-drugs and nano-devices.
