Miley Cyrus About to Enter the Metaverse? Two Trademark Filings Revealed
Just yesterday, NFT and Metaverse trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis shared two trademark applications, 97551201 and 97551195, which suggest that the American singer and songwriter, Miley Cyrus is about to enter the Metaverse. Both of these trademark applications have been filed since August 16th for “Miley” and “Miley Cyrus”. In the Goods and Services section, it’s hinted that Cyrus has plans to create downloadable virtual goods related to her art, fashion, clothing, jewelry, video game characters, and more.
It looks like Miley Cyrus will be the latest celebrity that takes her brand to the metaverse with these NFT-related trademark applications. A few weeks ago, she joined Gucci Beauty in their own Metaverse called Gucci Town, becoming their first avatar guest. Apparently, the success of this partnership has convinced the artist to file the trademark applications in order to launch and protect her goods in the Metaverse. Miley Cyrus is one of the most successful artists in the world with over 35 million monthly listeners on her Spotify account. For most artists, merchandise is one of the most important sources of revenue, — for Miley Cyrus, merchandise sales have generated around $76 million. The earnings, however, depend on the licensing terms, with artists profiting between 10% and 20% of the total revenue. Meanwhile, for Metaverse, most platforms charge much less, giving artists the opportunity to gain more. There are estimates predicting that by 2026, 25% of people will spend at least one hour per day in the Metaverse for different purposes and activities.
