Medtronic's Adaptive Stim™ with RestoreSensor™ data shows efficacy

Medtronic announced data from a clinical trial show AdaptiveStim™ with RestoreSensor™ neurostimulation system are effective and convenient in providing pain relief when compared to other systems without positive-adaptive stimulation technology. Approved by the FDA in November of 2011, AdaptiveStim™ with RestoreSensor™ is the first system to utilize motion sensor technology normally found in smart phones and computer gaming systems to manage chronic back and/or leg pain. The study, which took place over 10 U.S. centers, had 79 enrolled participants; only 76 received the implant. The results of the study show that 86.5 percent of patients who experience chronic pain felt pain relief, 80.3 percent reported functional improvements, and 90.1 percent of patients express an interest to continue using the system. The profile of adverse events with and without the technology activated were similar.
