MakerBot Patents Automatic Filament Switching System

Brooklyn based 3D printing company MakerBot has patented a dual-filament solution to change print colors on the fly. The goal of the patent is to allow multiple types of materials to be printed into the same object, and the technology involves leading the filaments through the heated extruder using a slider system. In related news MakerBot's parent company Stratasys announced $4.1M in net income for Q1 2014 and sales of 8,802 printers, over 7,000 more than were sold in Q1 2013.
