Improved system for treating abdominal aortic aneurysm

An alternative to major surgery for the repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) will soon be available in the US. Medtronic, Inc. announced the US launch of its Endurant II Stent Graft System today. The system treats AAA through minimally invasive endovascular repair. AAA is a condition in which the aorta bulges or weakens, is accompanied by little to no symptoms, and can cause sudden death if left untreated. The Endurant II AAA Stent Graft builds on the successful Endurant Stent Graft with the addition of three improvements, including the ability to fit inside smaller catheters, more sizing options and easier limb insertion, placement and deployment.
“The Endurant II Stent Graft is a very deliverable device that enhances the ability to treat more patients than previous devices and to traverse challenging anatomies, especially iliac arteries with tight access,” William Jordan, one of the principal investigators for the US clinical study of the device, said.
