Facebook Granted "Influencer Marketing" Patent

Earlier this week Facebook was granted a patent to "Identify experts and influencers in a social network." The idea is that the company could monitor the rate at which a piece of content (e.g. a link) was shared and then determine who caused that rate to increase. Such a person would be considered an influencer, and would have targeted advertising aimed at them in hopes of tapping into their connective potential.
