Can glass fibers heal chronic wounds?

Researchers at the Missouri University of Science and Technology are using glass fibers to heal stubborn wounds. Delbert Day, professor emeritus of ceramic engineering, has been working with the fibers — they look sort of like cotton candy — as a way to improve healing. They're designed to react with body fluids, stimulating the growth of blood vessels.
